Okay so we haven't posted any flip-flop photos yet. I just haven't gotten up the nerve to ask someone if I can take a picture of their feet. I'm pretty sure they'll think I'm a wack-o with a weird foot obsession. So I think I'll take inventory of all the flip flops in Sarah's closet and the ones she leaves around the house.
I'm always getting in trouble for slipping on her flip-flops and wearing them out in the yard where they get muddy. Well if one leaves flip-flops floating freely about, then a person has to figure their family members feet will find those flip-flops first. How's that for alliteration? Probably could use some work.

Why
Long ago when I was a little girl in Florida, we wore flip-flops to the beach. I loved my flip-flops because they kept me from getting sand-spurs in my feet.

When I was four years old we moved to Iowa, where flip-flops were almost unheard of. (Well, almost, you could buy flip-flops in the summer to wear to the pool). One of the reasons I looked forward to our trips to Florida in the winter, besides getting to see my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, was getting a new pair of flip-flops for the beach. Just the little rubber beach store kind.
When I was 18 I moved back to Florida, by then there were "cool" flip flops, they had a foamy rubber sole that was stacked in various shades of a color. The thong part was made of nylon and was reinforced by a leather sewn across the nylon. We had a friend who wore this kind and we made fun of for wearing his flip-flops everywhere. Sometimes if we were going out to eat or to a movie we would ask him not to embarrass us by wearing his flip-flops. That was about 27 years ago.
Now even northerners wear flip-flops even in the winter. I see high school girls walking to school through snow, wearing flip-flops. The boys in my daughters high school wore flip-flops to graduation.
Just recently while on vacation, being a shoe noticing person, realized that most of the people wandering around Branson, Missouri, were wearing flip-flops - men, women, children, even old people. It was then I realized we've become a flip-flop wearing nation. So I thought wouldn't it be interesting to document the wide variety of flip flops and the feet they slip on to.
That is the purpose of this blog. If you have a good flip flop picture feel free to send it. (Remember though if you send it to us, you are giving us permission to use your photo in subsequent blogs and or publications).

ReplyDeleteIn the summertime, I live in my flip-flops. I wear them everywhere I go. If I'm not wearing my flip-flops, I'm in some form of sandals, mostly with no backs, but a few pair have backs. I just love shoes I can slip in and out of easily. Maybe, I should send you some pictures of my flip-flops someday. And then again maybe not..
